Introduction to the CASA Role
Core Training Sections
In this first core training class trainees are introduced to bigger picture concepts: relationship-building, relationship-based advocacy rooted in non-judgment and curiosity, boundaries, confidentiality, consistency and accountability. Trainees are also introduced to the requirements of the SFCASA volunteer advocate role, including the Volunteer Agreement.
Goals for this class include:
Become familiar with the SFCASA Volunteer Advocate Core Training Program
Explore the framework and obligations of relationship-based advocacy of the CASA role
Building and maintaining relationship with SFCASA Team (Pro-tip: Your Case Supervisor is there for you!)
Building and maintaining a positive relationship with a young person
Research and relationship building with stakeholders
Introduction to administrative requirements of the volunteer advocate role (court reports and activity logs)
Begin to learn the opportunities and boundaries of the volunteer advocate role
