Introduction to the CASA Role

 

In this first core training class trainees are introduced to bigger picture concepts: relationship-building, relationship-based advocacy rooted in non-judgment and curiosity, boundaries, confidentiality, consistency and accountability. Trainees are also introduced to the requirements of the SFCASA volunteer advocate role, including the Volunteer Agreement.

Goals for this class include:

  • Become familiar with the SFCASA Volunteer Advocate Core Training Program

  • Explore the framework and obligations of relationship-based advocacy of the CASA role

  • Building and maintaining relationship with SFCASA Team (Pro-tip: Your Case Supervisor is there for you!)

  • Building and maintaining a positive relationship with a young person

  • Research and relationship building with stakeholders

  • Introduction to administrative requirements of the volunteer advocate role (court reports and activity logs)

  • Begin to learn the opportunities and boundaries of the volunteer advocate role
