Educational Advocacy

A healthy education is critical to the development of any child. Unfortunately for youth in foster care, this process is often disrupted and basic educational needs go unmet. A CASA can provide vital education support for their youth by monitoring and advocating for their rights in the classroom and beyond.

Goals for this class include:

  • Review educational barriers and outcomes for youth in foster care.

  • Learn the 5 pillars of educational rights for foster youth (School stability, Special education, Discipline, Graduation, College )

  • Understand how a CASA should advocate in each of these areas.
