Explore more ways to support

We get it, being a CASA is a big commitment, and it’s not for everyone. But there are still powerful ways you can support children and youth in San Francisco’s foster care.

Anyone can make a difference

1. Spread the word

Know someone who might make a great CASA? Tell them about us or invite them to an info session! Word of mouth makes a big impact.

2. Follow & share

Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn, and share our posts — it helps more people learn how to get involved.

3. Invite us to speak

We’d love to connect with your workplace, book club, church, or community group. Just reach out to our Community Engagement Specialist at melany@sfcasa.org and we’ll set something up!

Every action can make a big impact. Here are 3 easy ways to support our mission.

You don’t have to be a CASA to volunteer to make a difference.

SFCASA is no longer accepting applications for volunteers for 2026, but check back here for opportunities to volunteer with us in 2027. Or if interested in this work for 2026, please see the list of VITA sites on the United Way Bay Area website.

Help navigate the tax system

What does the program look like?

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program exists to help current/former foster youth prepare and file their tax return(s) for free. With the help of incredible IRS Certified volunteers, we help youth understand and navigate the tax system.

Who is behind SFCASA’s VITA site?

SFCASA VITA’s site is administered by the IRS to provide free tax preparation to eligible taxpayers. State and Federal returns are prepared by IRS-certified volunteers, who undergo training and are required to pass an IRS exam. SFCASA’s VITA site exclusively serves the foster youth population.

Multiple volunteer roles needed

We’re looking for IRS Certified volunteers with a passion for advancing economic mobility and financial literacy.
