Sample story:

I found my way to SFCASA after reading a series of stories about what it's like to grow up in Foster Care and I started volunteering with them 3 years ago. In those years I was trained to work as an advocate for a young person in the foster system in SF. I've gotten a window into life as a foster child and what that can be like. I've also seen how little the state is able to provide these young people due to loss in funding and cut backs and how important the variety of nonprofits in this field are. SFCASA is a nonprofit that works to match trained volunteers with foster children and youth. These volunteers work to address each individual’s needs in the court and the community. In my years volunteering here, I've learned so much about what it is to be a young person today. I've learned about the courts and legal systems that govern young people’s lives. I've learned about the public school system and how foster children fit into it. I've seen first-hand how the systems in place can leave cracks for vulnerable people to fall through. Please read more about SFCASA on their website. I'd love for you to donate here and/or sign up for a volunteer information session! SFCASA has become a major part of my life. It shaped my late 20s and has helped me become a more engaged member of our community. https://www.sfcasa.org/info/
