of becoming a SFCASA Volunteer please join us at one of our upcoming 45-minute
information sessions.
There are 4 training programs per year. The summer training program is
nearing capacity. Attendance at a 45-minute information session is the
first step in the application process. Please note: meetings are sometimes
held at different locations.

The Fall 2008 schedule will be posted by 8/15/08. Trainings will run
every Tues and Thurs evening (6-9pm) for 6 consecutive weeks beginning
mid September 08.

1. Adolescent Mental Health Issues,
Wednesday, 7/30/08 (6-8:30 pm).
Trainer: PAMELA PARKINSON, Ph. D, LCSW
Foster youth are at greater risk of having mental health and behavioral
issues related to their backgrounds of abuse and neglect. Obtain an overview
of mental health issues for adolescents in out-of-home care including
the impact of trauma, range of conditions, and counseling and treatment
guidelines. Mood, anxiety, behavior, and psychotic disorders as well as
approaches for addressing specific conditions and behavior issues will
be discussed.
2. Educational Advocacy,
Wednesday 8/20/08 (6-8:30 pm).
Trainer: JEFF PERRY, Educational Advocacy Coordinator.
Part I: Panel of Education Experts, followed by Q & A.
Part II: Active CASA Volunteer Panel, followed by Q & A. This class
is required for all CASA volunteers recently assigned to a case.

Choosing Your Words Wisely: Using Spoken and Written Language Effectively
with your CASA Child,
Wednesday, 8/27/08 (6-8:30 pm).

This class will be capped at 10 participants. Please RSVP early to
ensure a spot at the table.
Attending one continuing education
class per quarter will ensure you meet your 12 hours of annual continuation
requirements.
