2014 Fostering Change Gala Raises More than $325,000
San Francisco CASA, the only volunteer program in San Francisco that empowers everyday citizens to serve as advocates and mentors to foster children, announced that its inaugural Fostering Change Gala: JAZZ, held at the Westin St. Francis on Friday, May 9, raised more than $325,000 to support foster youth.
Event Chair Lisa Spinali built upon the success of SFCASA’s two annual events to create this singular gala expected to be SFCASA’s signature event for the coming years. Volunteer advocate Mick Remondino was the real highlight, sharing his four-year story of advocating for and mentoring an adolescent boy, and celebrating the his recent adoption and his new family.
Guests of the gala were delighted with the two youth jazz bands, the Luke Schwartz Trio during the reception sponsored by Von Holt Wines, and the The Gnarmalade Collective Quintet after dinner. During the after-dinner performance, guests were treated to Copa Loca gelato and bubbly.
The silent and live auction included beautiful photographs from the Jazz Heritage Center and several extra-special items, such as an in-the-kitchen experience at the French Laundry and a helicopter tour of San Francisco followed by dinner at La Folie. Paired with a Fund a Need to support additional volunteer CASAs, guests raised their paddles to the tune of more than $150,000.
The honorary Percussion Section included Hon. Dianne Feinstein, Hon. Gavin Newsom, Hon. Mark Leno, Hon. Willie L. Brown, Hon. Edwin M. Lee, Hon. David Chiu, Hon. Eric Mar, Hon. Scott Wiener and Hon. Norman Yee.
The Board of Directors and Guild of SFCASA are grateful to their many sponsors for making the Fostering Change Gala possible including McKesson, AT&T, Duane Morris LLP, Pacific Union Community Fund, Shartsis Friese LLP, and Von Holt Wines.
