San Francisco Resources

Bay Area Volunteer Information Center
The purpose of this Web publication is to provide information about volunteer opportunities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hopefully, volunteerism will be stimulated and facilitated by letting potential volunteers know about the wide range of opportunities open to them and by giving Bay Area non-profit organizations a means of publishing their goals and needs.

Juvenile Council of California Center for Families, Children and the Courts
The Center for Families, Children & the Courts (CFCC) is involved with many projects related to family, juvenile, child support, custody, visitation, and domestic violence law and procedure. Ongoing projects include developing rules, forms, and standards; providing training, education, and grants; and coordinating research and statistical analysis. CFCC also initiates projects involving issues of juvenile dependency, victim reconciliation, and court access. We disseminate information through newsletters, Web sites, brochures, and information centers.

Department of Social Services Families with Children
The Family & Children's Services (FCS) division provides a wide range of services designed to protect children when a threat of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or abandonment presents a danger to the child's safety. The focus of FCS is family support and family preservation. The goal is to provide families with reasonable services whenever possible to end the problems that create a danger to a child.

Edgewood Center for Youth and Families
Founded in 1851 as an orphanage, Edgewood is the oldest charity west of the Mississippi. Over the years, Edgewood has evolved into an agency that serves thousands of troubled children and their families throughout the Bay Area.

Edgewood is a non-profit agency funded by fees for services and charitable contributions.

Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth
Since 1975, Coleman Advocates for Children & Youth has been  working to protect the health and welfare of San Francisco's children. When San Francisco's children need someone to stand up for them — Coleman has been there — in City Hall, in our neighborhoods and in the media. Our work has led to expanded after school programs, increased services for homeless children, improvements in Juvenile Hall and the creation of jobs for youth. Coleman also led the campaign to pass the landmark Children's Amendment, making San Francisco the first city in the country with a guarantee in its charter protecting funding for children.
