What CASA’s should know about TBS (Therapeutic Behavioral Health Services)

Monday, January 24th, 2011

For CASA’s, there is an underutilized service out there that could potentially benefit your child: TBS Services (Therapeutic Behavioral Health Services). These services are so underutilized that a class action lawsuit named Emily Q called for counties in California to improve the provision of timely and consistent access to TBS Services. These services could potentially save a good placement, so take note!

TBS Services are supplemental specialty mental health services and will provide children and youth with a one-to-one behavioral mental health intervention. The TBS coach/worker meets the child on their turf (at home or in the community) to help the youth target and identify specific problem behaviors.

As a CASA, if your child is receiving mental health treatment (ie individual therapy) but it still risking their placement by their behavior, consider asking for this intervention.
