SFCASA’s Fostering Change Luncheon is next Wednesday!
Friday, May 11th, 2012SFCASA’s 12th Annual Fostering Change Luncheon is just FIVE DAYS AWAY! This year’s luncheon theme is ‘The Power of One.’ As we hear so often right here on our blog, it only takes one person to dramatically change the odds for a foster child. One SFCASA volunteer can help save a vulnerable youth from re-victimization, inadequate care, dropping out of school, or ending up homeless, which are all serious threats foster children face daily. ONE CASA is the key to making sure a foster child is safe, healthy, and on track to succeed.
At the Luncheon, we will honor former Superior Court Judge Donna Hitchens, a true champion for the rights of foster youth and families. (Learn more about Judge Hitchens here.) We are also pleased to announce that Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks—and a native of the Bay Area—will be in attendance to present the award to Judge Hitchens. Marshawn is dedicated to supporting child welfare and we are excited to meet him. We are also honored to have Jan Yanehiro as our MC.
The event is a gathering of the many people who play a significant role in the support and care of foster youth in San Francisco. CASA volunteers, Dependency Panel Attorneys, court commissioners, concerned citizens, past donors, SFCASA staff, and our Board of Directors are all so important to the success of the children we serve every day. At the event, we’ll hear from Hong Chew, an attorney who practices within the child welfare system in San Francisco. And we’ll also have the chance to be inspired by the story of an emancipated foster youth and her former CASA, and to share in the youth’s journey from being in foster care to now being a strong and successful woman who is giving back to the foster youth community through her own nonprofit organization.
All of their stories represent the ‘Power of One’!
