Please follow these procedures when appearing in court to advocate for your child:

The Week Before

Check in with your child's DHS Child Welfare Worker (CWW) and attorney to confirm that they have received copies of your report and to obtain a copy of the CWW's report.

Confirm that they know your position on important issues and that you know theirs.

The Day Before the Court Date

Check with the Court Officer to confirm the date of the court hearing. These dates can change without warning! CASA volunteers are responsible for keeping themselves as well as their Case Supervisors updated. Ask your case supervisor to help you determine the Court Officer's contact information for your child's review calendar.

On the Court Date

Check in with the Court Officer at 1:30 p.m. and wait in the hall near your courtroom until your case is called. In the hearing, do not speak unless asked to do so.

Dress Code

When observing or attending court as a CASA, please dress in a manner that reflects the seriousness of the occasion. This means no blue jeans or shorts, though neat but casual clothes may be appropriate.

Fragrances are not appreciated by the Court Officers. Please try to help the courts remain a fragrance-free environment.

In short, use your best judgement, and keep up the tremendous work on behalf of San Francisco's abused and neglected children!

PLEASE WEAR YOUR CASA PIN!

Thank you for all of your efforts on behalf of your clients.
