Family Youth Services Program (FYSP) has been established as a collaborative
effort between the Juvenile Court, the Department of Human Services, and
San Francisco Unified School District. The mission of FYSP is to better
meet the specific educational needs of foster youth. Through academic
case management, database development, and advocacy, the program will
improve the chances for foster childrens academic success.
Services offered through FYSP
- Assistance with tracking school records and other pertinent academic
information.
- Assistance with school placement and referral to special school programs.
- Intervention in regard to attendance and behavioral issues.
- Advocacy in regard to the academic rights of foster youth.
- Identification of and referral to resources.
- Trainings and workshops for school, group home, and DHS personnel.
- Linkage with Juvenile Court, SFUSD, and DHS regarding the coordination
of services for foster youth enrolled in SFUSD.
If your CASA child lives in a group home in San Francisco or Daly City
AND attends a public school in San Francisco, he or she is eligible for

New grant to help youth go on to college
If your child is of high school age, look for a questionnaire asking:
- Is your youth in Special Education?
- Is your youth mainstreamed?
- Does he or she have the ability to go on to college or trade school?
- Do you attend school meetings?
- SST meetings?
- IEP meeting?
- Are you your youths Parent Surrogate for Educational Purposes?
- Does your youth attend Independent Living Skills classes? If so, where?
