Keeping the Promise Event

Come join us to raise awareness about Foster Care and Child Abuse Prevention in San Francisco.

National CASA, California CASA and SFCASA present the Keeping the Promise Event in San Francisco to shine a light on this important issue.

Wednesday, April 7, at 12:00 pm, in Civic Center Plaza- the kick off event.

Speakers at the ceremony will include the honorable Donna Hitchens, Superior Court Judge in the Unified Family Court, San Francisco Supervisor Sophie Maxwell, and Diann Nunn from the Judicial Council of California.

433 cardboard cutouts of children will make a stirring visual impact to raise awareness about these “Forgotten Children.” Each of the 433 cutouts bear actual messages from foster children gathered by a national study commissioned by the National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association and represents the number of children that entered foster care in San Francisco in 2009.

Additional agencies on location will be California CASA with other Bay Area CASA agencies, Edgewood, Honoring Emancipated Youth (HEY), California Youth Connection (CYC) and Family Builders.

The band The Cataracs will entertain the crowd after the speakers..

Thursday, April 8, from 11:00 am-3:00 pm the Keeping the Promise display will be up at Civic Center Plaza
and agencies will also be present to talk to the community about children in Foster Care.

Friday, April 9, from 11:00 am-3:00 pm the Keeping the Promise event will continue at Union Square. CASA representatives will be there with the 433 cut outs to bring awareness to the plight of children in Foster Care.

This Keeping the Promise event is part of National CASA's Forgotten Children Campaign. National CASA launched the Forgotten Children campaign with a dramatic event on the Mall in Washington, DC, in the spring of 2008. Inspired by the event's success, CASA programs across the country have staged events in their own communities.
